In Ohio’s 9th Congressional District, LCV Action Fund-endorsed Representative Marcy Kaptur is facing a challenge from State Representative Derek Merrin. Marcy Kaptur has an 85% LCV lifetime score and a 100% score for 2023. Kaptur is the Ranking Member of the Energy and Water Development appropriations subcommittee and has been a champion for restoring the Great Lakes. Derek Merrin voted against a bipartisan bill to address pollution and algae blooms affecting Lake Erie. He also voted for a bill that would require opening up public lands and parks to fracking and labeled methane gas as green energy. Merrin also has ties to those involved in the biggest public corruption scandal in Ohio history as former Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder was convicted of racketeering conspiracy in which FirstEnergy funneled $60,000,000 in exchange for passing a $1.3 billion nuclear plant bailout. Merrin voted for the $1.3 billion bailout (H.B. 6) and took money from FirstEnergy and their allies.
