Climate Coalition Latest Ads Speak To Black, Young Voters In Crucial Battleground States

October 16, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC —  Replacing toxic lead pipes, reducing energy and food costs, and the threat posed by climate are the focus of the newest content from a coalition of climate groups as part of their major $55 million presidential advertising campaign in partnership with Future Forward (FF PAC). The ads continue the campaign’s central theme of Harris’ vision for lowering energy costs and creating hundreds of thousands of good paying, American jobs in clean energy manufacturing that will benefit middle class families.

In Things That Matter, a father speaks directly to camera about how Kamala Harris is listening to working parents like him, and has put forward plans to benefit middle class families. “Kamala,” he says, “is focusing on things that matter which means that I can too,” while holding up a picture of his young daughter.

The climate coalition behind the ads includes LCV Victory Fund and Climate Power Action, in partnership with Future Forward (FF PAC). The ads, a 30-second and 15-second version, will play on YouTube, streaming television platforms, and social media in key battleground states. Additionally the coalition will be putting the previously announced youth-focused ad Future Worth Fighting For back up on digital platforms for the remainder of the election.

“In the final weeks before election day, we are doing everything we can to engage all voters,” said Pete Maysmith, SVP of Campaigns at LCV Victory Fund. “With this latest wave of ads we’re making sure Black and young voters hear that Kamala Harris will look out for our families and communities, by lowering costs, building a clean energy economy, increasing access to clean air and water and tackling the climate crisis.”

“The climate crisis often impacts Black communities and Black families first and hardest. In our newest ad, a father speaks to exactly what the starkly different plans from the two candidates mean for him and his daughter.  The fact is Vice President Kamala Harris has delivered historic progress and has a record of holding Big Oil accountable, while Donald Trump is standing with Big Oil and their dangerous agenda,” said Lori Lodes, President of Climate Power Action.

“This powerful, emotional spot makes the consequences clear for people of electing Donald Trump – higher costs for struggling families,” said Addisu Demissie, Senior Advisor at Future Forward (FF PAC). “This continues to build on the work to make sure Black voters know the choice in this election between an economy that works for them and an economy that only works for the wealthy and the powerful.”

Script:

Working every day, having a kid,

I felt like I’m missing so much just to provide for her.

All I’m asking is for things to be a little bit easier.

Kamala Harris is listening.

Her plans bring down the cost of food and electricity.

She’s cutting taxes for people like me, and she’s replacing deadly lead pipes.

And investing in our future.

Kamala is focusing on things that matter.

Which means I can too.

Kamala Harris:

“Our nation with this election has a precious, fleeting opportunity to fight for the freedom to breathe clean air and drink clean water, and live free from the pollution that fuels the climate crisis. Let us show each other and the world who we are because the future is always worth fighting for.”
