LCV VICTORY FUND ANNOUNCES $14M AD CAMPAIGN, REVEALING TRUMP’S ANTI-ENVIRONMENT RECORD TO “ENVIRONMENTAL SWING VOTERS”
Paid media will target persuadable voters in battleground states of AZ, FL, MI, NC, PA, WI; Priorities USA Action partnering on MI, FL, PA, WI digital programs
Washington, D.C. — LCV Victory Fund today announced the most ambitious electoral program in the organization’s history to impact the presidential election, starting with a $14 million paid media program to expose the truth about Donald Trump’s environmental record to voters in key battleground states.
Research done in partnership with Hart Research’s Geoff Garin shows that when a subset of swing voters learns basic factual information about Trump’s environmental record, their support for a Democratic candidate grows by a stunning 20 points (from 22% to 42%). This initial $14 million campaign will target these “environmental swing voters” in Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin with research-driven messages on climate and the environment through high-frequency digital advertising and high repetition direct mail. LCV Victory Fund is partnering with Priorities USA Action for the digital programs in Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
“At a time when we are more concerned than ever about what dangerous toxins can get into our bodies, people across the country deserve the truth about President Trump’s science denial and dangerous rollbacks of environmental protections that are putting the health of our children and families at even greater risk,” said Pete Maysmith, LCV Victory Fund Senior Vice President of Campaigns. “Donald Trump won’t listen to the scientists but follows the advice of corporate oil and coal lobbyists who he appointed to his administration and it’s putting our communities in danger.”
LCV Victory Fund’s research also shows that only 33% of swing voters report familiarity with Trump’s actual environmental record and are unaware of his calculated attacks on climate and environmental protections. Ad messages will address the Trump administration’s attacks on clean air, clean water, and the climate, including Trump’s dismissal of experts and science, outright denial of climate change, environmental rollbacks that allow chemicals like lead and other cancer-causing carcinogens to seep into our drinking water, and the weakening and elimination of rules that stop polluters from spewing unlimited amounts of dangerous pollutants into the air.
“Trump’s disastrous record on the environment is a major vulnerability for him according to our polling,” said Patrick McHugh, Executive Director of Priorities USA Action. “We’re proud to partner with the LCV Victory Fund to ensure that voters hear the facts about his record across digital platforms where they are spending an increasing amount of their time.”
LCV Victory Fund partnered with BlueLabs analytics firm and used advanced modeling techniques to identify the universe of 1.5 million “environmental swing voters” in the program’s six battleground states.
